I have watched the majority of the Bachelor/Bachelorette seasons on ABC, and only twice has the bachelor/bachelorette chosen the person I want to “win” in the finale. One of these couples, Trista and Ryan, are happily married. The only couple that has survived post-taping. The other, Andy & Tessa, continued to date for almost a year after taping finished. It has become clear to me that if these lucky men and women featured on the reality series just choose the person I deem most worthy of that final rose, their relationship will not be doomed to failure.
As I lament over the last thirteen seasons of this travesty of “finding Mrs. Right”, there is a Bachelor who needs to be called out. Jason Mesnick, last season’s bachelor, had his heart broken when he was rejected at the final rose ceremony by DeAnna Pappas on The Bachelorette’s fourth season. Mesnick got his comeback big time when he chose Melissa Rycroft over Molly Malaney in the final rose ceremony, however, in the after-show “After the Final Rose” he proclaimed to a live audience that he made a mistake and didn’t love Rycroft. Melissa was brought out and he broke up with her and asked for the ring back. Ouch. THEN Molly showed up (surprise surprise) and he asked her for a second chance. Congratulations buddy, you are a complete douche bag.
The next season of The Bachelor will premiere January 4, 2010 and will feature commercial pilate Jake Pavelka and the 25 women vying for his affections. Pavelka was also on the last season of The Bachelorette, where he became notoriously known as the guy who tattled on a fellow contestant who had a girlfriend back at home, causing a lot of controversy for at least two episodes. Oh Jake, you have oh so many haters out there. I can’t wait to watch the drama ensue.
